The brief

Create design worthy of Jeffrey’s 80+ unique recipes and turn the 214 pages into something special and unique that tells the culinary story of his Italian inspired cookbook.

Sometimes, you really can judge a book by its cover.

After pouring over the contents of Delicacies, we came across the Spaghetti a Nero di Sepia recipe. It was the perfect image for the front cover, as if Jeffrey himself had painted it with a brush. This was it. A visual representation of how the food looks when served, and the back cover the truth behind once you are finished with it.

Professor, painter, chef.

Jeffery Cote de Luna Professor who teaches art at Dominican University, has also had the privilege to live and teach in Italy for several months a year. After falling in love with all things Italian cuisine he documented his experiences in his cookbook Delicacies.

A strong foundation.

A great book has a strong composition, layout, intriguing focal point, easy to read typeface, and simplistic but powerful book cover design. It was our responsibility to like a recipe, find the right way for all these “ingredients” and elements to work together and form the standout final product. Delicacies takes the reader on a journey from the first page, until the last.

We love to read books and we love designing them too. This book is full of wonderful stories that relate to each recipe. It takes you on a journey with Jefferey as your guide on a true food tour.
